Blue-Collar Story:

Staffing Companies Aren’t Just Businesses, They Are Life Changers

Before you begin reading this you should know that I did not write this to promote my company. No one knows I wrote this or that I am sending it to you. I wrote this because feel that most people don’t realize what staffing companies really do. I want people to know the good that this industry is doing.
When I started interning in early May, I had a limited knowledge of the staffing industry. I knew the basics of what we did as a company but it wasn’t until recently that I fully appreciated what staffing truly does. As a college student from a middle class family I haven’t ever experienced true adversity. I haven’t ever wondered how I’m going to afford my next meal or feed my family. What I’ve learned is that staffing companies, especially those specializing in temp labor, aren’t just businesses, they are life changers. What we do goes far beyond clients and conference calls. We help people every day.
Staffing Companies Arent Just Businesses, They Are Life Changers

On Friday, June 1st  I was asked to observe a dispatch at one of our St. Petersburg, FL branches. When I arrived at 5:30 A.M. it was still dark outside. 30 or 40 people stood outside the door of the branch waiting to get in and start their day.
These men weren’t in suits and ties or even collared shirts, they came in jeans and steel toe boots. They came from homes, apartments, and shelters. They came by foot, bus, new and old car.
Everyone was there for the same reason. They weren’t here for a free handout, or a pity party; they were here to work.
It was inspiring to see the fighting spirit that these men had. They shuffled in when the doors opened hoping to walkout with a work order and the promise of a paycheck at the end of the day. It didn’t matter if they had a college degree or were a high school dropout, everyone just needed a job. If they didn’t have boots, we provided them. We made sure they had all the safety equipment they needed to work that day. It was an amazing experience.
One by one we sent them out with work orders. By 8 A.M. 89 people had left the office with a day’s work ahead of them. 89 people who were in need of work to provide for themselves or their families were able to do so because of what we do.
It felt so good to be able to give that opportunity to them.
What we do is so much more than paperwork and phone calls. We give people the opportunity to get back on their feet. We give people the chance to work. Where most companies say no, we say yes. It’s not glamorous work but it’s work nonetheless.
As the social media/PR intern it’s my job to reach these people. The more people I reach, the more jobs we fill, and the more people we put to work. That’s a goal worth striving for. That’s why I love working in the staffing industry.  (For more great "True Staffing Stories" visit http://www.staffingtalk.com/staffing-companies-businesses-life-changers/)
